YellowPages.com
If you've thought about advertising with yellowpages.com, be warned. If you have not made a decision before seeking information, you will likely get latched onto by their entire sales structure like a pit bull on a cheeseburger.
I took advantage of the free listing primarily for a backlink to my website. What ensued was a sales call from a young man who I politely told I wasn't interested. That was followed up by over a dozen follow up calls, follow up emails, calls and emails from other sales reps, another follow up call from the original kid and finally when I hung up on him, I got this:
Hello Richard,
I apologize if our practices seem intrusive but when an account has not been resolved your account continues to be reassigned.
Until there is some type of closure I am afraid you will continue to get calls. So please let me know what direction I should go with your listing. If you want to leave it name searchable only that is fine, but let me know. If you want to move forward with what we discussed that is fine too.
At this point I just want you to stop getting called but can’t do so without some sort of feedback from you.
Kind Regards,
(AT&T sales kid)
After replying with "You can't be serious. Stop calling me forever", I got this:
So you want your listing completely removed from the site?
That would be the only way to prevent calls. Please call 800-***-**** and they can take the listing down for you.
Thank you for your time, again I hope you accept my apologies for any inconvenience.
Kind Regards,
(AT&T sales kid)
Part of me is impressed and in awe. Pretty audacious to come out and say "we're going to call you forever whether you like it or not". I'd like to say I'm the only one, but when I shared my story with another lawyer, he had the identical experience just weeks ago.
